Russ Meyer
Biography
Growing up, Russ Meyer was introduced to the outdoors by his father who was an avid hunter and fisherman, so it was natural that he too would come to love the outdoors. This love of the landscape and beauty of the birds and animals would later become the inspiration for his artwork.

After graduating from high school Russ attended the Milwaukee Institute of Technology where he took a course in Commercial Art for two years. He then continued his art education at Layton School of Art and Design in Milwaukee and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a major in Illustration.

From 1970 until 2001 he worked for various companies as an artist designer.

It was sometime in the early 1990's that he was introduced to the art of realistic wood carving of wildlife. He would go on to take several classes learning the skills needed to produce the beautiful wood carvings that you see today. Russ's favorite subject matter for his carvings are birds and his earliest attemps were of waterfowl and later would expand to song birds and birds of prey.

Russ has been and continues to be a strong supporter for the Wisconsin chapter of Ducks Unlimited and makes regular donations to them of his artwork. Through his donations of wood carvings and decoys he helps to raise funds to promote waterfowl conservation and secure the habitat in which they live.
